GORILLA FAMILIES IN THE NKURINGO SECTOR OF BWINDI
Nkuringo sector is situated in the southern part of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Nkuringo is the four mountain gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. Other mountain gorilla trekking sectors of the Bwindi forest include the Ruhija sector in the east, the Rushaga sector in the south, and the Buhoma sector in the north. Nkuringo sector offers a prim mountain gorilla trekking experience to visitors with 3 habituated mountain gorilla families.
Nkuringo gorilla family
Nkuringo mountain gorilla family is among the 3 habituated gorilla families in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, Nkuringo gorilla group is an interesting group to visit due to its photographic nature. Nkuringo gorillas’ group is always on the move in this thick bush in Bwindi forest to the buffer zone while looking for food. Nkuringo mountain gorilla family was habituated in 1997
Bushaho gorilla family
Bushaho gorilla family is the second habituated mountain gorilla family in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi, Bushaho gorilla family comprised of 8 members and was created as a result of some Nkuringo members broke off from the Nkuringo gorilla family and later on formed the Bushaho gorilla family, Bushaho gorilla group is led by Bahati silverback.
Christmas gorilla family
Christmas gorilla family is the third being habituated in the Nkuringo sector. Christmas gorilla group is comprised of 9 members and it’s led by a Christmas silverback who was born on Christmas day.
Nkuringo gorilla experience starts with a morning briefing at the park’s headquarters regarding the rules and regulations of trekking mountain gorillas. After the briefing travelers are subdivided into groups where 8 people are allocated a gorilla family to trek with an experienced park guide.
