Nkuringo gorilla family

Nkuringo mountain gorilla family is among the three habituated gorilla families in the Nkuringo sector of the Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.

The Nkuringo gorilla group is an interesting group to visit due to its photographic nature. The Nkuringo gorillas’ group is always on the move in this thick bush in Bwindi Forest to the buffer zone while looking for food. Nkuringo mountain gorilla family was habituated in 1997

Bushaho gorilla family

The Bushaho gorilla family is the second habituated mountain gorilla family in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi. The Bushaho gorilla family is comprised of eight members and was created as a result of some Nkuringo members breaking off from the Nkuringo gorilla family and later forming the Bushaho gorilla family. The Bushaho gorilla group is led by the Bahati silverback. 

Christmas gorilla family

The Christmas gorilla family is the third to be habituated in the Nkuringo sector. The Christmas gorilla group is comprised of nine members, and it’s led by a Christmas silverback who was born on Christmas day. 

The Nkuringo gorilla experience starts with a morning briefing at the park’s headquarters regarding the rules and regulations of trekking mountain gorillas. After the briefing, travelers are subdivided into groups where 8 people are assigned a gorilla family to trek with an experienced park guide.

The Nkuringo sector of Bwindi can be toured throughout the year, although the most favorable time to visit is during the dry months of June, July, August, September, December, January and February because there is less rainfall in this park.
