The mountain Bisoke hiking is one of the most unforgettable activities in Rwanda. The top of this Volcano has a spectacular crater lake.

 

It is simply a 6 – hours hike including the 2 hours descending down to the starting point. Experienced hikers can get to the top of this mountain in a matter of 3 hours or even less and return to the base in about an hour.

 

Mount Bisoke is an active volcano in the Virunga Mountains of the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. It straddles the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the summit is located in Rwanda. 

Detailed Itinerary for 2 Days Mount Bisoke Hike & Gorilla Trekking Rwanda

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Musanze - Mount Bisoke Hiking

This tour starts with an early morning pickup at 4:30 am by our company representative from either a hotel / Kigali International Airport for a transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Musanze province on your first day of 2 Days Mount Bisoke Hike & Gorilla Trekking Rwanda.

 

Reaching the Kinigi Park Offices by 7:00 AM just in time for the morning briefing and registration before proceeding to the head trail – the Mt Bisoke hike starting point. With packed lunch and hiking gear,

 

With your guides and porters start hike to the top of this volcano, enjoy lunch uphill before retrieving the starting point; meet up with your guide for drop off at either a hotel.

Have dinner and overnight as you prepare for gorilla trekking o the next day.

 

Mount Bisoke volcano is a dormant volcano part of the 8 volcanoes of the Virunga conservation region of East and Central Africa. Mount Bisoke stands at 3,711 meters with a crater lake and beautiful vegetation at the summit.

 

Hiking mount Bisoke is a 1 day hike which requires good fitness and it's a tough steep hike and advisable to take a porter to help carry your water and day pack.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park - Kigali Genocide Memorial center

In morning the morning after breakfast transfer to the Kinigi Park headquarters by 7:00 am where you will be briefed by park rangers about the rules concerning trekking on your last day of 2 Days Mount Bisoke Hike & Gorilla Trekking Rwanda.

 

After briefing, start off with trekking along the paths in the bamboo forests, it is an amazing activity where it can take between 2 to 6 hours to track the mountain gorillas.

 

When you meet the gorillas face to face you will watch them jumping from branch to branch, feed, play among other things; Only 1 hour is given to trekkers to watch the gentle giants. You will also see buffaloes, monkeys, birds, and elephants through the forests.

 

Later, transfer back to the lodge for lunch, check out and transfer back to Kigali where you will be able to Visit the Genocide memorial site with information and memories of the shading of blood during the 1994 genocide. Later transfer to  the airport.
