Nkuringo sector in the south 

The Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park has mountain gorilla groups like the Virunga gorilla group, which got its name from a Rukiga word meaning round hill. Ruhija sector in the East

Ruhija sector of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park has mountain gorilla groups that include the Bitukura gorilla group, which was named after a river where they were first seen; the group consists of 12 members, 4 silverbacks; the Oruzogo gorilla family; the Mukiza gorilla family; and the Kyaguliro mountain gorilla family. Rushaga sector in the south

Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is composed of four mountain gorilla families, which include the Nshongi gorilla family, the Bweza gorilla family, the Mishaya gorilla family, and the Kahungye gorilla family. Visitors can be accommodated at Gorilla Safari Lodge and Chameleon Hill Lodge.

Most tour operators and travelers choose the Rushaga sector as the best sector for mountain gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park because it protects more habituated mountain gorilla families compared to the other three remaining sectors, and getting a mountain gorilla trekking permit for Rushaga is also easier. However, according to the elevation and nature, the Buhoma sector is the best for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The best time to see mountain gorillas in Uganda is in the dry months, which occur from June to August and from December to February. During those months, the forest trekking trails are drier, less muddy, and not slippery, making trekking easier. You also have the best chance to view other animals in the forest besides mountain gorillas.
